Meghan Murphy, MA, CCC-SLP
Meghan has been a speech and language therapist for over 17 years and is the owner/therapist of Meghan Murphy and Associates, LLC. Meghan graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2000 and then went on to earn her Masters in Arts in Communication Sciences from Northwestern University.
Since then, she has had a variety of work experience in many areas including Northwestern’s Hospital Early Identification Clinic as well as their Voice clinic. She also has experience working in several small private practices, as well as elementary schools within the Chicago Public School system. During this time Meghan developed experience treating speech and language delays and disorders, as well as language and auditory processing challenges. Meghan continued her education with extensive training in the SOS feeding protocol, various oral motor programs including PROMPT and the Beckman Oral Motor Protocol. Meghan has pursued training in all levels of NeuroNet, including assessments. She also has training in PECS (Picture Exchange Communication Systems), Therapeutic Listening beginner and advanced courses, as well as training in auditory processing disorders. Meghan has enjoyed completing several levels of the ICDL certificate program for DIR certification. Meghan has recently done extensive training in literacy and dyslexia as it relates to language development as well as several courses in regarding Sarah Ward's executive functioning framework and strategies.
Her recent education includes several of Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social thinking curriculum, Tina Bryson's The Whole-Brain Child programming, the Selective mutism treatment approach, as well as training with Rush Neurobehavioral’s system for Executive Functioning Disorders. Her latest training was through SPELL-Links (Spelling Performance Evaluation for Language and Literacy) with a concentration in multi-linguistic knowledge and skills. In 2013, she was honored to serve as a Featured Speaker at the Illinois Branch of the International Dyslexia Association conference.
In 2004 Meghan opened her own practice offering services in homes, schools and clinic-based. She has slowly built a team of hand picked therapists who value not only continuing education, but providing personal and individualized treatment for children in a variety of settings. Her practice also acts as a training clinic for Rush University students. Meghan and her team are certified members of the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the Illinois Speech and Hearing Association (ISHA) and is licensed within the State of Illinois.
When Meghan is not at work, she loves spending time with her two sons, traveling with her family and enjoying the many sites of Chicago.
